It's in my Blood

When I was about 7 years old my mother gave me her old set of oils and as a child I spent a good part of my summers painting in the back yard. My father didn't especially appreciate the green child's hand print that ended up on the hood of the family stationwagon, but luckily I was allowed to continue painting. When I graduated high school I won a couple of art scholarships and studied art at Bethany College for 2 years before changing majors to pursue a career in business.

My Favorite Things

After college I didn't touch my art for almost 10 years. In my late 20's I decided to take a break from business and pursue a more creative venture. I owned "Eye Sell", a store window display company in Los Angeles  for about 3 years. I was able to use all kinds of mediums to create backdrops and sculptures for my displays. The variety included painting, woodworking, collage, paper mache, and sewing to name a few. Although this venture never quite panned out as a financially viable option it was great fun and I'm glad I had the experience.  See more display windows: Click Here

Hello Bama!

After leaving my display business I put my art supplies away again for another 10 years and have only found the time to start painting again since I moved to Alabama.  I've been inspired by a piece that I started 10 years ago of an imagined place. I've carried the unfinished piece with me all these years and often thought I'd like to explore the technique and concept further.  The original piece is shown in the photo at right where I'm sharing it with a local artist gathering.

My series of imagined places and organic elements done with technical pens and  watercolor washes are that exploration. My favorite artist Jacek Yerka is also a source of inspiration for this series shown below.

I'm still working on this piece!
